Lindsay started to skate at a young age and eventually joined the figure skating club in 1988 but quickly informed her parents that ringette was going to be her game on skates.
In 2006 Lindsay received the Harley Hotchkiss Bursary at the Women at Centre Ice awards luncheon for dedication to hockey and academic standing as she was entering her first year at the University of Calgary Medical School. In the fall of 2006 she was instrumental in forming the Class of 2009 Lady Macaque hockey team where she taught 20 hockey novices about the game from how to get dressed to offside to positional play.
Her teaching and dedication culminated in a 3-2 victory over the Class of 2010 in the annual Atrophy Cup competition. The game was played on February 12, 2008 and it was the last time Kelly and Dianne saw Lindsay alive. As with every goal she set, Lindsay played the game of her life leading the Macaques to the overtime victory and a berth in the final against the Class of 2008 to be played on February 19, a game she would not get to play. On February 16 she played her final game with her competitive club team, the Jets in Beiseker. The team only had 6 skaters that night and she played the entire game with no breaks. After spending the night with teammates in Airdrie she was tragically taken from us the morning of February 17 as a passenger in a single vehicle rollover only seconds from her parents’ home near Cochrane. At her memorial service on February 23 her classmates and hockey teams remembered Lindsay with a group rendition of The Hockey Song. On Monday, February 25 her Macaque team played the postponed championship game honoring Lindsay’s family before the game in front of a huge crowd of friends, faculty, teammates, and family. The team then paid tribute to Captain Monumental (her med school nickname) as they played their hearts out in winning the Atrophy Cup championship with a 5-1 victory. Lindsay would have been so proud of her teammates.
Lyrics
Hello out there we’re on the air it’s hockey night tonight
Tension grows the whistle blows and the puck goes
down the ice.
The goalie jumps and the players bump and the fans all
go insane,
Someone roars “LINDSAY SCORES!” at the good ole
hockey game Oh the good ole hockey game is the best
game you can name. And the best game you can name is the
good ole hockey game
2nd period:
Where players dash with skates aflash the home team trails behind
But they grab the puck and go bursting up and they’re down across the line
They storm the crease like bumble bees they travel like a burning flame
We see them slide the puck inside – It’s a “1-1” hockey game!
Oh the good ole hockey game is the best game you can name
And the best game you can name is the good ole hockey game
3rd period: last game in the playoffs, too…
Oh take me where the hockey players face off down the rink
And the Stanley Cup is all filled up for the chaps who win the drink
Now the final flick of the hockey stick and a one gigantic scream
The puck is in! The Macaques team wins! The good ole hockey game!
Oh the good ole hockey game is the best game you can name
And the best game you can name is the good ole hockey game
Oh the good ole hockey game is the best game you can name
And the best game you can name is the good ole hockey game
Oh the good ole hockey game is the best game you can name
And the best game you can name is the good ole hockey game
She shoots she scores!
