6th Annual Monumental Tournament of Aces is Front Page News

Saturday, October 5 saw a large contingent of cowboys and cowgirls descend on The Links of Gleneagles in Cochrane to play some golf and remember an amazing daughter and friend Lindsay Kimmett. 175 golfers and 40 friends and volunteers made the day very special for the Kimmett family. The cool winds at the start of the afternoon gave way to a warm Chinook breeze and by the end of the round for the first time in tournament history no one had made a hole in one except for some pesky ravens. Lindsay would have loved the spirit of the day and especially the authentic and goofy costumes. She always liked a good party. After golf a packed dining room saw a tremendous live and silent auction which as always included Cochrane icon Mr. Stu Bradley. By the end of the night $77,000.00 had been raised thanks to our outstanding sponsors and the generosity of our golfers. Over $25,000.00 will be going to Leesha and Lau Mafuru’s Boma la Mama project in Tanzania, Africa and $10,000.00 will be given to our flood-stricken neighbours in Benchlands. The remainder will be used to finish off The Mitford Pond Project which should be complete by the end of the month. Congratulations to Pat and Charlie Crutchfield honoured as Kimmett Cup Volunteers of the year and to all of the Kimmett Cup/Hockey Quest 500 crew with the announcement of an official Guinness World Record for most players ever in one hockey game! Congratulations to tournament chairs Mike Borody and Taylor Kimmett and their amazing volunteer committee for putting together another outstanding event to honour our beautiful Linds. Thanks to all for attending and supporting the foundation and the Kimmett family. We hope to see everyone back for next year’s 7th annual Monumental Tournament of Aces.

SADDLE UP FOR THE 6TH ANNUAL MONUMENTAL TOURNAMENT OF ACES!

On behalf of the Lindsay Leigh Kimmett Memorial Foundation, the Monumental Tournament of Aces co-chairs and golf committee, and the Kimmett family we would like to extend an invitation to you to attend this year’s 6th annual event on Saturday, October 5 at The Links of Gleneagles in Cochrane. Last year’s event was truly memorable with a record number of golfers and another 3 hole in ones bringing the total to 11 in 5 years! Over $90,000 was raised (bringing the 5 year total to just under half a million dollars) to support our “Five For 5″charities – the Cochrane Activettes, Family Community Support Services, Victim Services, The Boys & Girls Club, and Boma la Moma a birthing centre project near Arusha, Tanzania where Lindsay did some medical school electives in 2007 before climbing Mt. Kilimanjaro. Leesha and Lawrence Mafuru will be attending this year’s tournament with a progress report on the building of the Lindsay Kimmett Academy public school which is the first phase of the project. Proceeds this year will go towards finishing the Mitford Pond Project and The Lindsay Leigh Kimmett Memorial Foundation Endowment Fund which supports many educational and sporting scholarship and sponsorship programs on an annual basis.

It is very easy â€“ come out on October 5 dressed in your best cowboy duds and hat (sorry, no boots on the greens but they are fine at dinner) and have a great time golfing with friends and family and join with us in remembering Lindsay.
