Monumental Tournament of Aces 2008

With the support of businesses in Cochrane and beyond, 132 golfers braved chilly conditions and even a few raindrops to raise over $100,000 at the one-day event, which also included a dinner, entertainment and live and silent auctions. All proceeds were donated to the third phase expansion at Spray Lakes Sawmills Family Recreation Centre, which includes the construction of two additional ice surfaces for aspiring puck prospects in the community where Lindsay learned to skate and suited up for several seasons of hockey and ringette. "Lindsay was very proud of being from Cochrane and we are humbled by the incredible support of the Cochrane community of our family and Lindsay’s Foundation. Tournament chairman Mike Borody and his volunteer committee worked tirelessly to put together this amazing event and the community and businesses rallied around the cause to produce what you see today",said Kelly Kimmett, Lindsay’s father. “As I mentioned at the dinner, we as a family are trying to carry on Lindsay’s legacy as best we can. Lindsay had many great accomplishments but in our minds the best was still to come. Lindsay, our family and the world lost so much on February 17.” Lindsay Kimmett, a former valedictorian at Cochrane High School and a medical school student at the University of Calgary, was tragically taken as the passenger in a single-vehicle rollover in February. She was 26. The Lindsay Leigh Kimmett Memorial Foundation was launched to carry on Lindsay’s legacy and to continue to chase her dream of making the world a better place. [...]

Monumental Tournament of Aces 2009

MONUMENTAL TOURNAMENT OF ACES 2009 ning project at Spray Lake Sawmills Family Sports Centre. The female dressing rooms at each arena in Cochrane will be dedicated to Lindsay. While the Lindsay Leigh Kimmett Memorial Foundation and the Spray Lake Sawmills Family Sports Centre were the clear winners on the afternoon, Denise Crawford and Don Tannas also left Cochrane Golf Club with a tale to tell their friends. Crawford recorded a hole-in-one at the 115-yard fifth hole, retrieving her tee shot from the bottom of the cup despite a tough pin location at the back of the green. Don Tannas also got into the act, firing an ace from 77 yards out on the seventh hole, where golfers switched balls with a friend. As a result, it was Mike Quinlan making an early trip to the prize table to cash in on Tannas’ incredible aim. “The Tournament of Aces was a labor of love, an offering from people who cared and who were people that got things done,” said organizing committee co-chair Mike Borody. “The committee of friends caught the idea of a very special fun tournament, a reason to get together, remember, celebrate a life and grow a legacy in Lindsay Leigh Kimmett’s memory. Monumental!” Lindsay Leigh Kimmett jammed a lifetime of accomplishments into her 26 years, setting a lofty standard in the classroom, on the ice and in the community. After she was tragically taken as the passenger in a single-vehicle collision in February 2008, her family members, classmates and friends vowed to keep her [...]

Monumental Tournament of Aces 2010

On perhaps the best golfing day of the season the 3rd. Annual Monumental Tournament of Aces Golf Tournament took place on Saturday, October 2 ,2010 in support of The Lindsay Leigh Kimmett Memorial Foundation. 163 golfers took to The Links of Gleneagles lush fairways in search of golf's most elusive prize, a hole in one. And true to this tournament's magical reputation three golfers recorded aces. Joe Hossack, Chris Morrison, and Lindsay's mom Dianne Kimmett all recorded a 1 on their scorecards and increased the total to 7 aces recorded in the tournament's three editions. A much more important number of $67,000.00 was recorded as the total proceeds to Lindsay's Foundation which in turn is being donated to Arts & Culture Foundation Cochrane to kickstart the building fund for a new proposed arts centre in the town of Cochrane. Lindsay, an accomplished pianist who also played flute and piccolo had a deep appreciation for the arts. She enjoyed playing and listening to music, collected art from her world travels, and was a keen patron of live theatre. Saturday's tournament featured 4 different musical acts, Enzo & the Ferraris warmed up the crowd at registration, the Men of Vision Pipes and Drums piped the golfers out to the course, while Double Play and Tiramisu entertained during the silent auction and dinner. Painters Janet Armstrong, Marla Blackwell, and Scot Paisley completed paintings during the afternoon which were auctioned later in the evening. A short one act play by Vision Theatre Players entertained the dinner crowd and masks [...]

Monumental Tournament of Aces 2011

The fourth edition of The Monumental Tournament of Aces took place on Saturday, October 1 at The Links of Gleneagles in Cochrane. Cool temperatures and threatening skies could not dampen the enthusiasm of over 160 golfers as they took to the course in support of this year's benefactor The LINDSAY Virtual Human Project. For the fourth consecutive year magic happened at the tournament as Jerry Gilbertson recorded a hole in one on the eighth hole bringing the total to 8 aces in 4 years! Following the tournament a fantastic buffet was enjoyed by a crowd of 200 who packed the Terrace Room setting records for Stu Bradley's live auction and an incredible silent auction. A heartfelt introduction by Dr. Bruce Wright and a presentation of The LINDSAY Project by Dr. Christian Jacob captivated the crowd and at the end of the evening the MTA committee and the Kimmett family turned over a cheque for $100,000.00 to The University of Calgary for base funding of the incredible teaching tool being developed in Lindsay's name. On behalf of the Lindsay Leigh Kimmett Memorial Foundation, the Monumental Tournament of Aces co-chairs and golf committee, and the Kimmett family we would like to extend an invitation to you to attend this year’s 4th annual event on Saturday, October 1 at The Links of Gleneagles in Cochrane. Monumental Tournament of Aces 2012

MONUMENTAL TOURNAMENT OF ACES 2012 “FIVE FOR 5” Saturday, October 6 was indeed a monumental day as the 5th annual Monumental Tournament of Aces was played under picture perfect conditions at The Links of Gleneagles in Cochrane. Over 170 golfers plus 40 more friends joined with our amazing volunteer committee to raise over $90,000.00 for our “Five for 5” charities – Cochrane FCSS, Cochrane Victim Services, Cochrane Activettes, Boys and Girls Club of Cochrane, and Boma la Mama Safe Birthing Centre & School of Midwifery. It was not only a record breaking fundraising day but also on the golf course as 3 aces were recorded – Phil Westerson, Chris Cozac, and Bonnie Love (hitting husband George’s ball on the “switch ball” hole). A live auction hosted by Cochrane’s own Stu Bradley raised over $30,000.00 and the silent auction brought in another $14,000.00! Incredible sponsorship from our Platinum, Monumental, and Hole sponsors broke all previous records and nearly $10,000.00 in donations from golfers who paid but could not play, family, and friends also contributed greatly to the final tally. But the tournament is so much more than fundraising and you could feel the atmosphere of caring, support, and remembrance throughout the day. A very moving presentation from Boma la Mama founders Leesha and Lawrence Mafuru brought many in the crowd to tears and we are proud to give their dream a boost as they work to build a birthing centre and school of midwifery in Arusha, Tanzania. The Reg Sherren CBC video “Something is Missing” first [...]

Monumental Tournament of Aces 2013

6th Annual Monumental Tournament of Aces is Front Page News Saturday, October 5 saw a large contingent of cowboys and cowgirls descend on The Links of Gleneagles in Cochrane to play some golf and remember an amazing daughter and friend Lindsay Kimmett. 175 golfers and 40 friends and volunteers made the day very special for the Kimmett family. The cool winds at the start of the afternoon gave way to a warm Chinook breeze and by the end of the round for the first time in tournament history no one had made a hole in one except for some pesky ravens. Lindsay would have loved the spirit of the day and especially the authentic and goofy costumes. She always liked a good party. After golf a packed dining room saw a tremendous live and silent auction which as always included Cochrane icon Mr. Stu Bradley. By the end of the night $77,000.00 had been raised thanks to our outstanding sponsors and the generosity of our golfers. Over $25,000.00 will be going to Leesha and Lau Mafuru’s Boma la Mama project in Tanzania, Africa and $10,000.00 will be given to our flood-stricken neighbours in Benchlands. The remainder will be used to finish off The Mitford Pond Project which should be complete by the end of the month.
